Reversing Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome with Supplements and (yummy) Diet Changes

by Donna Fezler, who was ill for years

Nutritional Supplements

Please do not let the list scare you; this is a different, but safe, combination developed from personal experience. I am a former fibromyalgia sufferer that does not "cope" or "manage" my pain and exhaustion. I eradicated it. Over the last few years I have literally tried dozens of supplements and these emerged on the final list.

ATP Boost: 6-8/day for the first few days and decrease to 4/day.

The ATP Boost (rhea extract) patent contains detailed biochemical pathways showing the direct path from toxins to autoimmune disorders. It is posted on the USPTO site. ATP Boost provides safe energy for people with fibromyalgia, allergies, chronic fatigue syndrome or anyone wanting an energy or immune boost. Feel the difference! ATP Boost is not a stimulant and will not react with your medications.  It is formulated from rhea meat proteins and does not contain any other additives or supplements.

Dear Donna,
I just wanted to thank Ms. Fezler and all of you at GCR for your wonderful work. This past winter was the first time I was completely cold and flu free! (And the first time I took ATP Boost through the winter season.) ATP Boost has also significantly reduced the severity of my allergy symptoms.  I am using holistic methods to recover from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and ATP Boost is doing great wonders for my energy level as well.

I think people like you are pioneers and heroes. It's because you're out there taking hits on the front line of the battlefield that the quality of life has improved so much for the rest of us.  I'll keep you and GCR always in my prayers.

Very Good to Complete Symptom Remission

Allergies 73%
Energy Level 73%
Sleeping Habits 58%
Mood 65%
Pain 77%
Range of Motion 76%
Side Effects 4%: Too much energy, constipation
Expected Placebo Effect 20%

If you are taking more than 4 RX medications progress will be slow.  These medications have to be metabolized by the liver competing with the toxins for processing out of the body.  If at any point you feel worse slow down!  You are detoxing too fast.  Increase the free-range chicken broth or other animal protein product that you can easily digest.

With the ATP BOOST:

A high quality (at least $20/month) anti-oxidant formula with trace minerals.

  • SAM-e: Take in AM. Be careful it is not all the same, my personal favorite is enteric coated Nature Made (red and yellow box).
  • MSM supplies sulfur, very necessary for detoxification
  • Milk thistle extract 400 mg. Liver support.
  • Bromelain or high quality papaya-with supplements if you have intestinal symptoms
  • 5-HTP , 5 hydroxy L Tryptophan 150 mg per day before bedtime. Made from a fruit. This is a precursor for serotonin. It should not be taken with B6 to prevent metabolism in the GI tract instead of the brain. Take at night.
  • Kelp-terrific source of minerals (Do not take if using thyroid medication or if your urine is already clear)
  • Selenium from yeast as selenomethionine, vital for thyroid and bile production. Selenium inhibits the growth of Candida, which we believe is a huge problem in autoimmune patients. Garlic is an excellent natural source of selenium.  Contrary to the yeast myth, mushrooms do not foster yeast growth, sugar and starches do.
  • Iron-women  Hypothyroidism is often accompanied by anemia.
  • Vitamin A and D as fish oil-The label will specifically say" natural form". Hypothyroid people do not convert beta-carotene to Vitamin A. Free-range eggs and liver are also excellent sources. Vitamin A also prevents breast cancer. This is not the synthetic vitamin A found in most vitamins.
  • Beta Carotene
  • Thyroid hormone, natural.  Mary Shomon's book Living Well with Hypothyroidism is the best. She can also be found at about.com
  • Ashwagandha has been medically shown to assist the thyroid if you are looking for an herbal alternative.
  • Progesterone Cream-women.  This can be easily tested to see if your are deficient.  Many women are discovering their progesterone levels are too high using the cream as directed. Have it tested.

Optional if you wish:

  • Guafenesin (plain Robitussin) has a good anecdotal track record. It also looks somewhat like half of a dioxin molecule without the chlorine and may help to detoxify.  It doesn't seem to do anything for me (probably because I won't follow such a strict regimen but it does help others).
  • Malic acid is in the medical literature but it also can cause stomach upset.  I don't use it, others like it.
  • Kombucha-This is a homemade fermented tea originating in Russia. It has known anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and immune building properties. Purchased pills or bottled Kombucha won't do. I really like what Kombucha does.
  • Mushrooms- Shitake, Oyster, Reishi, Maitake especially have immune boosting properties.  Cooked only.  Button mushrooms, morels and portobellos have toxic rocket fuel (hydrazine) that can cause liver and kidney damage if eaten raw.

Eat lots of clean pasture-raised animal protein.  Animal protein has been a crucial factor in my recovery. I eat some sort of animal/fish/dairy/eggs at every meal.   It was the discovery of the importance of animal proteins that led to us having a small flock of chickens for eggs, meat, and stock.  If you want to test this yourself buy ORGANIC chicken broth and see if it doesn't help for a short time-an hour or so.  Grandma was right!

As explained in the patent, the body uses animal protein to help detoxify. Some of the sickest people who have called me were strict vegans; it just isn’t right for everyone. An interesting website by some "reformed" vegetarians: www.beyondveg.com.

Why organic or free range meats?  Body fat is a toxin storage depot

Many toxins are fat-soluble and are stored in body fat. Human milk has PCB’s and dioxin in it in tests taken from women all over the world. The fat of the small whales in the St Lawrence Seaway has such high levels of toxins that the dead animals have to be treated as hazardous waste. Researchers have found that female mice put on diets repeatedly had higher levels of toxins in their systems during the low calorie periods, probably released from the fat. They also felt that it was repeated dieting that increased cancer risk from toxin release rather than excess body fat. Dioxins have a half-life of 7 years in the body and are stored in the fatty tissues. Your fat is part of the toxin protective mechanism.

Study Sally Fallon’s site at http://www.westonaprice.org

Excellent study on the role of natural animal fats and meats in human health.

Commercial meats are loaded with antibiotics (chicken and red meat) and hormones (beef) so seek out free-range animals; this is why we have a small flock of free-range exotic chickens and grow Cornish Cross broilers. My small egg study comparing free-range eggs to grocery store eggs should be enough to make anyone question if cheap eggs have any nutritional value. Sally Fallon's book, Nourishing Traditions, goes into great detail on the importance of clean animal fats in the diet. Her site is: http://www.westonaprice.org

Eat healthy, clean fats like olive oil, organic butter, flax oil, and lard from pastured pigs.  Low fat is not a good idea for us.

Dietary Fats can have a tremendous impact on the pain and fatigue of fibromyalgia.  Our diet is full of synthetic additives, altered proteins, and adulterated fats. Combined with the recommended supplements is a strict regimen of healthy fats and oils. Dioxin is drawn to fat like iron filings to a magnet and stored there until it degrades very slowly over years.

Farm raised salmon has a totally different fatty acid profile than wild salmon, so do not consider it "fish oil" nutrition when you eat it. We use flax oil, tocotrienols, lecithin, and evening primrose oil for our essential fatty acid needs.

Fat-free food is a dangerous fallacy and probably only succeeds because by restricting all fats the bad fats are also restricted. We do occasionally consume bad fats, but we also take liver detoxifiers like silymarin (milk thistle extract) and licorice. Silymarin can also mitigate the effects of dioxin on the liver. Healthy clean fats and a detox formula are also a defense against cancer.

AVOID THYROID INHIBITING SOY PRODUCTS AND HYDROGENATED OR TRANS FATS (MARGARINE)

New Study on isoflavones:  Soy Supplement Doesn't Prevent Bone Loss-
But Weakens Immune System
  March 2001

The thyroid affects mood and depression, digestion, as well as metabolism and energy and weight gain. The latest research indicates that fibromyalgia is caused by a defect in the thyroid hormone signaling system.  The defect seems to be dioxin, a ubiquitous chlorinated poison that is also part of Agent Orange. It is has a structure very similar to one of the forms of thyroid hormone and appears to fool the body into thinking it has enough of the hormone. This is similar to the action we see with other hormone disrupters, the xenoestrogens.  Natural thyroid supplementation has been shown to be effective in fibromyalgia. Synthroid is not always well tolerated. We also avoid non-fermented soy foods, such as tofu and soymilk, which has an inhibitory effect on the thyroid. Soybean oil should not be used either because of the refining process.

Poison Fats like trans fats, refined fats, and hydrogenated fats are medically documented poisons. In our house, we only have olive oil, flax oil, coconut oil, non-BEST or organic butter, and lard. Literally remove all the other fats from the house. Cookies, baked goods, and salad dressings are loaded with these poisonous fats. After removing these fats from your diet, don't be surprised if your symptoms improve drastically in a few weeks time as your body rids itself of the poison fats. We make our own mayonnaise and thoroughly enjoy the cookies and cakes made with these healthy fats and free-range eggs. Butter is better!

ALL autoimmune disorders are variations of the same theme.
They are NOT the body attacking itself.
The body is slowly and painfully dying from poisons exceeding its capacity to detoxify.
The evidence abounds in the scientific literature, but is being ignored and wrongly interpreted as
"the body attacking itself."
This is the greatest blunder of modern medicine.

There is hope, a future without pain, and an economical path that can change your life and
put you back in control.
